What I can help with?
I am experienced at working with a wide range of issues including: anxiety, depression, bereavement, abuse and trauma, eating difficulties, living with health problems and disabilities, neuro-divergence, life transitions, relationship and sexual problems, family difficulties and low self-esteem and confidence. Sometimes the reasons for seeking therapy are less specific and might be triggered by a general sense of dissatisfaction or unease about life, questioning your identity or feeling stuck in patterns of behaviour that are no longer serving you.
How I work
I am an integrative counsellor and the foundation of my practice is informed by my training in existential philosophy and psychology. I also integrate knowledge from other approaches including attachment theory, CBT and mindfulness to inform the way I work.
I aim to provide an empathic and supportive space where you feel listened to and understood, as well as helpfully challenged. Through our conversations, I will guide you through your difficulties by exploring your emotions, values and beliefs, so that you can better understand what is holding you back from living a more authentic and wholehearted life. I will encourage you towards greater self-understanding, acceptance and compassion so that new ways of being become possible.
Therapy can also be a place for personal reflection, exploration and self-development when life is going well.
Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and take place at a fixed time, usually once a week; although some clients might prefer more frequent sessions.
Short term counselling/psychotherapy can offer support and focus on a particular issue. Long term therapy provides the space and opportunity for more in-depth exploration of issues, which in turn can lead to change.
There is no set time over which therapy takes place. Long term therapy may be open-ended; though most therapeutic relationships last between one and five years.
It is important to discuss expectations of therapy in the initial stages of the therapeutic relationship and this will be reviewed regularly during our work together.
